I present to you what I think is going to be one of the best jobs I’m doing lately. The good thing about this is not only the project itself, but thanks to it several people are collaborating and it is being very rewarding.
APPEARANCE AND COSTUME
For this project I have had the help of:
- Angel Ortiz (@angel_ortiz): Outer skins, eyes, hands and ornaments.
- Jose Castañera (@tallerdelcosplayer): Clothing and clothing.
It is a challenge since it is an animatronic project, this means that not everything in it is a technical / electronic concept, but rather that finishes and exterior appearance are needed.
- Bluethooth control system
- 12 Servomotors
- 2 DC motors
- Audio module
- Head caress sensor
To make the whole system work I am developing two pcbs that will be connected by a flat cable. The upper part will have an arduino mega-pro and the lower part, the audio module and the communication module.
This is electronics link: Controller XCHILD v1
The audio files (in mp3 format) can be loaded from the micro-sd that incorporates the audio module. In this way and having the source code, it is possible to customize the doll completely.
WHAT WILL YOU BE ABLE TO DO?
The doll, as planned, will be able to move, and it will do so in a funny way, emulating the natural inclination of the hip that normally occurs when walking. Our doll is going to move with the traction wheels but the inclusion of this movement will make us believe that he is walking.
The doll is controlled without wiring by means of bluethooth with a conventional PS4 controller. This command is easy to find and libraries for arduino are available.
It has two analog jockstics with which the movement of the doll is activated with the right and the head tilt and turn with the left.
FUNCTION OF THE BUTTONS AND CONTROLS
- DPAD UP -Sleep mode
- DPAD LEF – The Force (Left Hand)
- DPAD RIGHT – The Force (Right Hand)
- DPAD DOWN – Automatic Audio
- LEFT ANALOG – Head movement (Horizontal and vertical)
- RIGHT ANALOG – Movement of the doll
- TRIANGLE – Gestures “YES”
- CIRCLE – Gestures “No”
- SQUARE – Sleep mode (no actions)
- CROSS – Autonomous Head and Sounds Mode
- L2 – Lower ears
- R2 – Raise ears
- R1 – Surprise mode
- L1 + LEFT ANALOG – Lateral head tilt
ASSEMBLY AND CONSTRUCTION
Soon I will put the links to the assembly steps and the necessary files for the construction.
I will also include (with your consent) the people who are collaborating in this project … thanks to them we will definitively shape the doll.
